THE ANGLICAN CHURCH

Picture

THE ANGLICAN CHURCH
A CATHOLIC CHURCH

Anglicanism is part of the Catholic Church, not the Roman Catholic Church, but the broader One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church. Like the early Fathers of the Church, we believe that the Catholic (universal) Faith should be rooted in Word and Sacrament. Ours is the same Faith found in the Catholic Creeds (Nicene Creed, Apostles' Creed and Athanasian Creed), and the teachings of the Ecumenical Councils of the early Church. We celebrate and receive the Seven Sacraments found in the first centuries of Christianity.

GROUNDED ON THE WORD OF GOD

The Good News of the Kingdom of God and our new life in Jesus Christ is at the very heart of Anglicanism. We believe that the Holy Scriptures are the written Word of God, and have authority in the Church and over our lives as Anglican Christians. We worship using the Book of Common Prayer and because of our grounding in Scripture, our services are rich in biblical words and images.

A CHURCH FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT

We believe that each of us as Christians are the temples of the Holy Spirit, that only by the power of the Spirit can Christians live as Jesus, that through the charisms (gifts) of the Spirit can we serve as part of Christ’s body, and that the Spirit transforms us to be more and more like Christ. We seek to experience the fullness of the Holy Spirit like Mary, the Apostles and disciples did on the day of Pentecost and throughout their lives thereafter.

GOD THE FATHER, GOD THE SON AND GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT

As Anglicans, we believe in The Holy Trinity, one God in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We are disciples of God the Son, Jesus Christ, and we make up a community that recognizes His presence in our midst through the God the Holy Spirit

AN EVANGELICAL CHURCH

As Anglicans we are gospel Christians, evangelicals (people who share the Good News of Jesus Christ) like the first Christians. We believe in the Good News of the Kingdom of God proclaimed by Jesus Christ. Our response to Jesus' call is to give Him our lives and follow Him as disciples through conversion and faith. We believe that by the incarnation, death and resurrection of Jesus, and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, we have a new and abundant life, being reconciled with God and becoming his adopted sons and daughters.

A SACRAMENTAL CHURCH

As Anglicans we celebrate and receive the Seven Sacraments. The two sacraments of Jesus: Baptism & Holy Eucharist; and the five sacraments of the Church: Reconciliation, Confirmation, Ordination, Marriage and Holy Unction. We believe in the mystical presence of Christ in the Holy Eucharist and recognize that the sacraments are an outward and visible sign of an inward and spiritual Grace.
